Decal-Decorated Glass Sign for I.W. Harper Whiskey
Decal-Decorated Glass Sign for I.W. Harper Whiskey
This is a "I.W. Harper Whiskey" sign made by Vitrolite Company. It has a 1909 copyright mark on the bottom of the piece.
According the West Virginia Glass book, page 138, they used an opaque (white) sheet glass from Opalite Tile Co. and then applied decals to the piece. The book says this sign was made by using this process. It's hard to imagine that this is a decal. It looks like it was painted, but it is perfectly smooth on the surface.
This is the original frame and it is quite large--25.5 in. wide x 32 in. tall and very heavy.
I read somewhere that Harpers Whiskey company loaned these signs to its best customers.
