Paden City Duo Candleholder
Paden City Duo Candleholder

Paden City Duo Candleholder
Candleholder has the Lotus gold Rambler Rose etch (Decoration #110) on the base, and Lotus Prelude etch on the support arm.

The identification of the manufacturer of this candleholder has long been a mystery. Documentation that Paden City made this candleholder has now been found in a drawing from the AFGWU (American Flint Glass Workers Union) archives at the Museum of American Glass in West Virginia (MAGWV). The AFGWU drawing is shown here: http://chataboutdg.com/gallery/details.php?image_id=14306 The manufacturer is identified by the location of the union Local.

In the past there had been some speculation that this candleholder was made by Paden City and still other reports that it has been seen with the Adoration etch which was a Duncan & Miller design. Many glass enthusiasts believe the glass is not Duncan & Miller quality.

This candlestick is shown as possibly Paden City on page 142 of "The Glass Candlestick Book Volume 3" by Felt and Stoer. Tom Felt commented on the forum that the only etches he has seen on the candleholder were by Lotus.

Bill and Sandy Walker, authors of "Paden City Glass Company" have looked through all their notes and have not been able to attribute the candleholders to Paden City.

The slightly greasy feel of the glass and the shape of the candle bowl had also led to the speculation that the candleholder was New Martinsville.

The candleholder is also often found in black amethyst with a gold decoration.
