West Virginia Glass Specialty Acorn Vase in Metal Holder
West Virginia Glass Specialty Acorn Vase in Metal Holder
The entire piece resembles a stylized swan measuring 6 5/8 in. at the tallest point and 4 3/4 in. at the widest (breast to tail). The vase has a ruffled or crimped top and is 2 1/2 in. tall and 1 3/4 in. at the opening's widest point.
The metal holder is not marked, nor is the glass. A number of glass companies made this style of vase. The style of the metal holder, especially the leaves, is reminiscent of those on a holder for a Dunbar acorn vase shown on p. 45 of Dean Six "West Virginia Glass Between the World Wars." The Dunbar acorn vase does not match this one in shape.
Page 77 shows a Louie catalog page with three sizes of acorn vase shaped like this one. None match this one's dimensions.
Page 159 shows a WVGS acorn vase the same size as this one, with a thickened tip like this one.
