Diamond Covered Butter Dish
Diamond Covered Butter Dish

Diamond Covered Butter Dish
Glass researcher "ruchaven" in Indiana, PA, where the Diamond Glass-Ware plant existed, has attributed this covered dish as follows: "This butter dish was produced by the Diamond Glass-Ware Company of Indiana, PA as a grocery store premium. It was designed to look like a wooden barrel. It was one of the last items made at the factory in 1931."

This covered dish is also shown as an unknown, undocumented 3.25-inch tall powder jar on p. 396 in Colored Glassware of the Depression Era 2 by Hazel Marie Weatherman and on p. 51 in Bedroom & Bathroom Glassware by Margaret & Kenn Whitmyer.

An ice bucket in this "bark" pattern has been observed by several Forum members and is shown as a possible #1142 by Cambridge Collectors' Miami Valley Study Group in pink, no size given: http://albums.mvsg.org/albums/one-up/0901-1200b/1920s-1142_ice_bucket_possible_1142_peach-blo.jpg Forum member Walt Lemiski reported that a green bucket he possesses is not Cambridge quality, with extra glass on the edge, numerous bubbles in the glass, and lacks the clarity of Cambridge glass.

It would appear that the moulds for the pattern may have passed through several companies. Thus far, no printed catalog or advertising documentation from any company has surfaced.

The lid measures 4-3/8 in.across.
