Super Glass Company History
The Super Glass Company of Brooklyn New York bought the old Cambridge Glass plant when they needed space to expand their operation. The only equipment left at the plant was the pot furnace which they did not use. They brought in 4 or 5, five ton day tanks along with their own lehr, molds, and tools. The plant produced both vases and lamp bases which were hand blown and featured beautiful enamel work. The plant was back in production by 1960 and operated until 1963 or 1964 when the union sponsored numerous wildcat strikes and forced the company to retreat back to their Brooklyn Plant. This information was condensed from an article written by Bud Walker for the "Crystal Ball" in July 2002and found at the National Cambridge Collectors site at http://www.cambridgeglass.org/articles/superglass.php Several optic molds and examples of glass produced by this factory were purchased by the Walkers from the Friedman family who owned the Super Glass Co. May of 2001. The factory closed for good and the molds were sold at that time.
