Kemple #405 Lace & Dewdrop Covered Bowl
Kemple #405 Lace & Dewdrop Covered Bowl |
This white milk glass has a lot of fire. It is rather large at 7 in. tall and the base is 8-1/2 in. across.
According to the Kemple Glass book, p. 51, the moulds for this pattern, aka Lacey Dewdrop, Beaded Jewel, Co-Op #1902, were well-traveled. Originally made for George Duncan & Sons in the 1870's and 80's, they were sold to Co-Operative Flint in 1902, to Phoenix around 1929, to H.M. Tuska in the early 1940's (who tried Westmoreland and others with little success), and then to Kemple in 1946.
According to Jack Wilson's book Phoenix & Consolidated Art Glass, 1926-1980,, Phoenix acquired moulds of this and some other patterns from Co-operative Flint in 1937 and manufactured a decorated version until the early 40s. The moulds eventually passed to Kemple, which used the moulds from 1946 - 1970.
