Paden City Samovar w/ Silver Overlay on Vintager Etch
Paden City Samovar w/ Silver Overlay on Vintager Etch
A samovar with this shape is also shown in Colors in Cambridge book. Neither company sold or promoted these samovars as their own. The molds were provided by decorative metal companies like Century Silver and the glass and decoration ordered from the glass company. It can be difficult to tell which company made a given samovar, but color and documented etch are good evidence.
The color of the glass in this samovar looks more a match to Paden City than to Cambridge. Moreover, Vintager is a documented Paden City etch. For these reasons, this samovar is placed in the Paden City gallery.
Martha/Catawba is a similar Cambridge etch but without the lady. Some authors have suggested the similarity or perhaps copying of the etches. An "unknown blue samovar" in the Gallery has a Cupid (Paden City) etch but its identity as Paden City is questioned. See http://chataboutdg.com/gallery/details.php?image_id=546
