Unknown Black Ashtray
This ashtray is unidentified but the bottom does show that there was a Patent application.

The ashtray dimensions are:
3 5/16" long;
2 13/16" wide and
1 3/4" high.

The book, "Art Deco Chrome" by Linz, identifies this as a "Chase "slide top" ash tray No 804A, black glass base with combination polished nickel and polished brass top, was also available with a green glass bowl. The slide top appears to be Park Sherman. Design patent to Jacob Sherman for the slide top, also to the Universal Lamp Company."

Patent dated 1932, a set of 4 originally sold for $.50.

It is believed that Chase did not make their own glass therefore a glass company was involved.
