Jefferson Glass Lamp
Jefferson Glass Lamp |
The shade on this lamp ia also etched.
You generally find three types ofJefferson Glass lamps:
*Spool lamps
*Multi-sided bases with one spool piece and then a squashed ball
*Pancake lamps, invariably ID'd as Fenton unless they happen to have a label
I have a seen other styles--yours, a large urn-type lamp, a square base, and a round base, and I think another couple.
The pancake lamps & squashed ball lamps sometimes have etching, and there are matching shades with that etching. The shades are unusual because they are incredibly fragile. The peacock etching can be found not too uncommonly on the squashed balls, and is really neat on the shades. The pancake lamps tend to an all-over flower reverse etch.
Enameling was also done as a decoration. I have seen it on the pancake lamps and on the style you posted.
The most common colors are light green (jadite) and a "pink"/tan. I have also seen off-white, ruby, amber, and yellow glass from them.
The West Virginia Museum of Glass supposedly has quite a few.
