Maryland Glass Co. Unknown Cordial w/ Ribbon Etch
The stem is 5-1/8" in height with an opening of 2" and the base is 2" in diameter.

According to a Maryland Glass Co. study group:
"•The stem is somewhat generic with a ball at the top of the stem and is unlike the typical lady’s leg stem.

•Shards of this type of stem were found in the factory dump but have been largely ignored because they are somewhat generic.

•They were made at the Maryland Glass Company – the shards include stem examples which did not have the foot applied. If the stems had come from another glass company the foot would have been added to the stem.

•Two other examples (pattern name or line numbers are unknown) of this type of stem are in local glass collections, one has painted flowers with a crystal bowl and green stem and foot. The other is all crystal with Maryland’s basket etch.

•The stem would have been made, at a minimum, during the 1925-1935 time period. It was during that time period the local factories made the transition from forming the stem by hand to having it created in a mold during the process of blowing the bowl. Some examples of this stem, in local collections, are wildly unbalanced and others are very consistent in appearance.

•No shards of the bowl have been found large enough in size to match [the one shown above], which is not uncommon given the breakability of bowls.

•And finally, Maryland’s bow etch has not appeared on any stem which is known to be a company other than the Maryland Glass Company.

Our conclusion is that the item is a Maryland stem with a previously unknown bowl, a new pattern or line number."
