Crockery & Glass Journal, January 4, 1912.
Tom Felt, West Virginia Museum of American Glass, provided the following information about this short-lived company in Morgantown, W. Va.
'Crystal Tumbler was a short-lived company that only existed from 1911-1912. While it is not directly related to Economy Tumbler, there is an indirect connection, because it was yet another company headed by George W. Fry, who had been president of Economy Tumbler, then was president of the Beaver Valley Glass Co., before resigning and joining Crystal Tumbler. (According to the Welkers, George W. Fry was probably the brother of H. C. Fry.)
From Pottery, Glass & Brass Salesman, August 10, 1911:
"Some weeks ago announcement was made of the fact that Frederick Skelton, representing various glass factories at 33 Park Place, had taken the agency of the Crystal Tumbler Co., of Morgantown, W. Va. A few days ago a shipment of samples was received and opened at the Skelton showroom, consisting of a corking good line of bar and table tumblers. These tumblers are made in a new patent tank, which throws no cords or blisters, and are certainly very exceptional in quality for tank goods. The new process is patented by Geo. W. Fry, head of the new concern. The local representative expects a big business in the goods.' " |
