Heisey #1229 Octagon Diamond Optic Bowl in Marigold
Heisey #1229 Octagon Diamond Optic Bowl in Marigold |
#1229 Octagon was produced 1925-1937 in crystal, moongleam, flamingo, hawthorne, marigold (shown) and sahara. Pictured is a piece in diamond optic; it was also available plain. Most (but not all) items are unmarked. Similar pieces were made by other companies, but with different handles.
The color Marigold was only produced for about a year beginning in 1929. Marigold contains Uranium, and the glass was deemed to be unstable. It is often found with cracking and crazing, sometimes the glass is even 'slivering'. Marigold glows under black light, and will set off a Geiger counter.
The piece shown also features the Empress etch.
There is another Heisey Octagon pattern, #500. Both patterns were named by researchers. |
