Fostoria Dec 509 Hummingbird Gold Decoration

Fostoria Dec 509 Hummingbird Gold Decoration |
Plate is Fostoria's #2440 LaFayette line.
Tom Felt writes, "I found a trade journal report in the October 12, 1933, issue of The Pottery, Glass & Brass Salesman": The Fostoria Glass Company, Moundsville, W. Va., has just brought out a new line of highly decorated ware in all kinds of fancy pieces, including bowls, vases and trays. ... The line is shown in three colors, each with its own special decoration; the decorative work, incidentally, being done in gold. There is a rich and lovely Burgundy color. The decorative motif here is a cattail. The handsome green shows fish with bubbles coming from their mouths and a suggestion of seaweed furnishing a background. The blue shows humming birds floating gracefully over the tops of flowers."
The fish decoration on Empire Green can be seen in our GCB2, page 30. To the best of my knowledge, none of these three decorations appear in any of the Fostoria references." |
