Canton Glass Company History
CANTON GLASS COMPANY, Marion, Indiana (1903‑1958), Hartford City, Indiana (1958‑1999).

The original Canton Glass Company was founded in 1883 in Canton, Ohio and moved to Marion, Indiana, after being destroyed by fire. In 1899, they became part of the National Glass Company. In 1902, National closed the factory, dismantling the plant and removing all equipment and molds to the Cambridge Glass Company. It was at this time that a new company was incorporated, retaining the Canton name, but erecting a brand new factory. The founder was Leon Nussbaum, who remained active in the management of the firm until his death in 1929. His son then became president until his death in 1945. In 1952, after the Paden City Glass Manufacturing Company went out of business, most of their molds were acquired by Canton. In 1958, the company was moved to Hartford City, Indiana. A company office was still in existence in 1999, but they were no longer manufacturing glassware.

The company produced pressed and blown glassware, including tableware, tumblers, stemware, bar and soda fountain goods, photographic supplies, druggist, hospital, and laboratory glassware, automotive devices, sidewalk and skylight glass, and extensive private mold work. Their letterhead in 1938 stated that they were manufacturers of "best quality pot glass in all colors."
