Vineland Flint Glass Works Company History
Vineland Flint Glass Works, Vineland, New Jersey (1897-1931).

Founded by Victor Durand, Sr. and his son, Victor, Jr. The Durands migrated to the U.S. from Baccarat, France where both had been employed in the glass industry. The father's interest in the new company was primarily to help his son get established, which he did in a short time. Within two years Victor, Jr. was able to buy out his father's shares and take full control of the company. They originally made bottles, and other utilitarian ware for industry. During World War I they expanded to meet a demand for scientific glassware that had previously been imported from Germany. This took the company into the 1920s when they began to market a line of glassware for the home. This line consisted primarily of accessory items such as bowls, candlesticks, vases, etc., most of which were made with an iridescent stretch glass finish. In 1924, the Quezal Art Glass and Decorating Company went out of business and Victor Durand formed the Durand Art Glass Division using many of Quezal's former employees. This new division produced free-hand wares that could compete in quality with Tiffany, Steuben, and Quezal. Meanwhile, pressed glass continued to be manufactured under the original company name. In 1931 the company merged with the Kimble Glass Company. That same year Victor Durand, Jr. was killed in a car accident. Without his support the Durand Art Glass Division, which seldom turned a profit, was closed within a year. The Kimble Glass Company continues in business as Kimble Glass, Inc. and is still located in Vineland, New Jersey.

Kimble Chase® - History

The origin of the Kimble Chase® global footprint began nearly a century ago, when Evan Kimble® founded Kimble Glass® Company in Chicago, Illinois. His first products included homeopathic vials, thistle funnels, droppers and medicine tubes. Kimble® relocated the company to Vineland, New Jersey in 1911. At the end of the First World War, Kimble® introduced its first volumetric laboratory glassware. Since that time, Kimble has been known as the market leader in the manufacture of volumetric glassware.

During the Second World War, the Kimble® product line continued to grow and brothers, Jim and William Kontes, formed the Kontes® Glass Company. Kontes® quickly became recognized as the highest quality manufacturer of specialty glassware. Kontes® Glass is known for helping to develop semi-micro, macro and microscale organic labware kits, straight-sided joints and metabolic reaction flasks. Building reputations for quality and service, Kimble® and Konte®s continued to operate independently until 1982, when Kimble® acquired Kontes® Glass.

In 1997, Kimble®/Kontes® became part of the Gerresheimer Group.

In July 2007 Kimble Chase Life Science and Research, LLC was founded as the result of a joint venture formed from specific operations of ThermoFisher and Gerresheimer. On October 31, 2016, Kimble Chase Life Science and Research Products, LLC was acquired by Duran Group.
