Heisey # 40 through #61 Opal Novelties
Heisey's Opal novelties were made for a short time, starting in 1901. They are numbered 40-61 and all carry the item number and a Diamond H, though the H is larger and of a different script from Heisey's later patterns. The glass is of quality inferior to their usual work; it is likely these were made to test the marketability of the designs. At the edges or when held to the light there may be a bluish cast or opalescence. They may have gold highlights and/or a simple painted decoration.

Each number refers to a different item, and only a few have the same designs. Pictured here from the upper left and going clockwise are the #57 puff box, #47 plate, #56 match box and #46 plate. The design on the match box is sometimes referred to as Sweet Scroll. Other companies made glass with similar designs.
