Huntington Tumbler Company History
Huntington Tumbler Company History |
Huntington Tumbler Company, Huntington, West Virginia (1901-1932).
In 1900, Anton Zihlman and others purchased the defunct factory of the Huntington Glass Company, which had only operated in the early 1890s. Zilhlman had previously founded the Cumberland Glass Company in Maryland. When it joined the National Glass Company in 1900, he apparently began immediately to look for another opportunity to get back in the glass business and found it in Huntington, West Virginia. As its name suggests, the new factory was devoted to blown tumblers, goblets, and barware, with an emphasis right from the beginning on decorations, including sand blast, etchings, light cuttings, and enameling. In the 1920s, the company expanded its output to include all types of stemware, vases, beverage sets, and other blown tableware, including candlesticks. The factory closed in 1932.
