Wagon Wheel
Wagon Wheel

Wagon Wheel
Wagon Wheel is the popular name for this pattern. Manufacturer is unknown.

Glass collectors have noticed some clues that indicate that this may be a Hazel-Atlas pattern. First, the pattern was made for Kellogg's as a promotional item and another well known promotional item made for Kellogg's was the three spout measuring cup. This measuring cup is identical to the HA marked three spout measuring cup.

In addition there is a beverage set in one of the HA catalogus from the 1936-39 era that looks like it is from the Wagon Wheel family. The beverage set has item numbers 9869 and 9870 in the catalog. The design appears to be the same as the Wagon Wheel but with a bulbous shape. Karen Lucas says, close inspection of the Wagon Wheel pattern reveals that the pattern has four raised lines in a shallow dip which makes it appear as six lines. The catalog pages are line drawings so an actual comparison of the two patterns has not been made yet.

Another glass collector, J. R. Freed, made the following observation about the Hazel Atlas connection. "I'm convinced that Wagon Wheel is Hazel Atlas - it's much too close to New Century (note the "bullseye" in the center of the plates) to be anything else! The colors are right as well, including crystal with red stripes! (Although it may have only been a lunch set - I haven't yet seen any dinner sized plates!)"
