The Cathay line was designed by Virginia B. Evans in the 1940s. Cathay pieces are also found in a frosted crystal finish which was patterned after camphored glass found in real Chinese pieces. A few items were made in black and black suede and midwest custard. Later in the 1960s, 7 items were made in the Dynasty Jade color. 1964 to 65, Imperial reissued some Cathay pieces in Cranberry and Verde which were also frosted colors. Then in 80 and 81, they reissued part of an oriental style assortment in opaque Jade Green. This bowl is from the 1980s because it was not made in the original Dynasty Jade issues
The Cathay pattern had many production problems due to the ornate nature of the pressed pattern.
