Viking Newport Prelude Sugar
Viking Newport Prelude Sugar

Viking Newport Prelude Sugar
This piece is interesting as the Prelude etch is first seen in 1948 which means Newport was also made by Viking.

The pattern was made for Pitman- Dreitzer, a distributor. According to the Pitman-Dreitzer ad in the "Colored Glass of the Depression Era, Book 2" by Hazel Marie Weatherman price guide, Newport was made in 1935 in Crystal, ruby, blue, amethyst, amber, evergreen and rose.

A few pieces are shown in Florence's 17th Ed. Depression Glass Encyclopedia where the colors are listed as Cobalt, red, green & amber.
