The company was established in Barnesville, Ohio in 1911 as the Lotus Cut Glass Company, but changed their name after the popularity of cut glass waned after World War I but the company continued to produce cut glass into the 1940s. In 1928 they started their silver plating decorating of glass. They also decorated with 22 and 24 karat gold until 1980. In 1960 they purchased Glastonbury Decorating (Chicago) which gave them modern cutting machines. The company never produced glass themselves but did own some glass molds. Silkscreen work using a cold process was added in the 1950s. Decorative treatment of "bent" glass was one of their most popular products in the 1950s as well. Lotus bought glass in bulk and used blanks from most American glass companies. they had stock from these companies until 1980. The company ceased operation in Dec of 1995. All assets were dispersed by auction.
