Fenton #1092 Basket Weave Bowl
Fenton has made Basketweave with open edge since the beginning of their production. First in opalescent colors, then carnival followed by transparent, translucent and stretch colors and continuing with the opalescent up to the late 30's At that time they stopped production of this shape and didn't use it again until the 1970's with the reintroduction of the "original" carnival and then the custard and other satin glasses. The second offering of Fenton from the 70's should all be marked. The first pieces are unmarked.

This piece is very unusual. Most of the transparent colors were made either in a large bowl shape, footed or unfooted or in smaller bonbon or mayonnaise sets. They did make 2 different sized vases, a pair of candle holders and 2 baskets. This piece is not known in it's transparent form. What I suspect happened and what makes this piece so unusual is that it was intended to be iridized for carnival ware and it was never iridized. None of the transparent or translucent pieces have the blackberry interior. It is only found with the carnival pieces.

This piece dates to the late teens early 20s. Dimensions are 6 1/4" wide at the top and approximately 2 1/2" tall. This piece, like all Fenton, will vary to some extent because they are hand finished so the crimps will vary causing both the height and width to differ from piece to piece. The base measures 2 1/2".

Carnival was made between 1911 - 1925 and Whitmyer says the width dimension will vary between 5 - 6 1/2".

The line number varies between 1092 & 1093 depending on how many rows of holes the piece has.
